Lucas’ First 40 Days Video

Had forgotten to share this video Hubby made! Now I had a few minutes to spare and can share it with you 🙂

Los Primeros 40 Dias de Lucas from TL Raudales on Vimeo.

Thanks for watching and till next time, when I write about my baby boy’s 2nd month!

1 Month and 10 days into Motherhood :D

I can’t believe how fast times goes by. I knew I had to be prepared for this, but it never ceases to amaze me. It seems like just yesterday I was leaving the hospital with our tiny baby, and now he’s a month old!

1month

Lucas was born weighing 6lb and 12 oz and measuring 48cm in length, by the time he was two weeks old he gained 10 oz and 4 cm. When he was a month old he measured 55 cm in length and weighed 8 lb and 12 oz :D. He’s such a healthy boy! Doctor says that my milk is sufficient and nurtures him well, so I couldn’t be happier! 😀

His celebration! he got lots of hugs and kisses from everyone :D

I have enjoyed this time so much! Being a mommy is something I always knew I wanted, but never actually knew how much I’d love.I don’t even mind waking up late at night or in the early morning for feedings or diaper changes because they are excellent bonding times for momma and baby. Besides, Lucas has been more than kind to us. He always slept for three hours straight at night. And at some points even four! (We even had a 5 hour long stretch one night! :)) I guess we were really lucky that he didn’t have day and night confused!

Mommy and Baby

Mommy and Baby

My little boy is too cute! I can’t stop looking at him, hubby says I have an addiction to Lucas, lol! Whenever I put him in his crib I’ll just look at him for the longest time and take him in. I love him more as each second passes by, and, as if by rule, it has a directly proportional increase on my love for Leo. He has been my partner in everything and now, we venture into parenthood together, and this, along with Lucas gives me the greatest joy and satisfaction you can imagine.

Our little family :D

Our little family 😀

As much as I love looking at my baby, I love it even more to look at him in his daddy’s arms, don’t they look adorable together? And I get to see it everyday!

I do have to say, breastfeeding was SO MUCH HARDER than I thought it would be. Everyone makes it look so easy, but in reality its just hard, at least for me: My milk took 5 days to come in…needless for me to say that being someone who planned to exclusively breastfeed from birth, seeing my baby take in formula because my milk hadn’t come down yet was exasperating! By the third day I was going crazy! On the fourth day we were visited by a lactation consultant and she calmed me down a little. She explained how it took longer for women who had c-section deliveries and helped me express some of the colostrum and feed it to my baby. The next day my milk came in, and then I wished that it hadn’t! OH! The pain! I swear I must’ve cried like a little girl! Thankfully as the days went by it got easier, until it became a part of our daily routine. I now look forward to those moments and talk to my baby and I sometimes see him smile or frown or coo or fart, and then I fall in love some more 🙂

One month visit to the doctor, tummy time, sleepy time amongst others! :)

As to my weight gain, as you all saw I gained a total of 18 lbs by the end of my pregnancy, so by week two after delivery I was two pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight, and a month later I’m at my pre-preggo weight! My doctor just gave me the green light for walking, so that’ll be my exercise for now.

Lucas’ first milestone was his belly button stump falling off, it fell when he was 6 days old, the exact day of his newborn photoshoot! It’s like he knew what was coming and wanted to look as adorable as possible! 😀

This month Lucas got his first shot! 😦 He was a really brave boy though, he barely cried when the doctor applied the vaccine, which is the one that protects against TB. So we’re covered now! 😀 Next month he’ll get some more, only mommy can’t stand to look so daddy takes over that part of the consultation! 😛 He also developed a very bad skin rash, and the doctor told us he had very delicate skin, so heat and wipes and some detergents give him allergies. He’s being treated for it though, and it seems to be clearing up pretty well.

Lucas attended to 2 birthday parties in his first 40 days of life: My dad’s and his cousin Jose Miguel’s birthdays! He dressed up and was happy and excited at both parties 🙂

As time flies by we discover new things, not only about Lucas, but about ourselves too. Our family is growing so much in experience and knowledge and we’re growing closer together! All because of our bundle of joy, our little peanut, Lucas!

And speaking of what we’ve learned about him, let me tell you some of the things he loves:

Tracking movement and sounds with his eyes, sucking on his fists (furiously if he’s hungry), smiling huge smiles like this one:

Say cheeeeese!

Say cheeeeese!

Lifting and turning his head side to side, listening to his daddy play the guitar for him when he comes back from work:

Taking his hands up to his face (like so):

Listening to music, especially Rock a Bye Baby, Jack Johnson, and Ironic by Alanis Morissette (to go to sleep, sang by mom :D), grasping mommy’s finger or boob when breastfeeding, being held and swaddled:

Being “worn” when going out with mom or dad for a walk or a quick visit:

And his swinging chair Aunt Lidia gave him:

There are also things he heavily dislikes, for example: cold wipes on his little bottom (he can’t really use wipes right now because of his allergies), being gassy (doesn’t happen so often), when mommy uses the Nose Frida (I can’t help it! It works wonders!!), tight socks and lastly bathing:

Well, that’s all for now! Thanks for reading and until next time! 😀

39 weeks…and our birth story! :D

Sorry I hadn’t posted anything in the past weeks, but I’ve been so busy just falling in love with my son! 😀 I don’t even know where to start, and I must warn you, this is going to be a very long post!

This is how week 39 developed:

May 27th

Let’s see, on the 27th my hubby got ahold of a new toy to play with: a MacBook Pro! His computer, a PC, was suffering a slow and painful death and so he needed something else to work with. He was so excited it was like seeing a little boy at christmas desperate to open his presents! You can see his super happy face when he finally opened it:

May 28th

We had our doctor’s appointment on the 28th, so yay! Lucas decided to wait for the doctor after all, but things weren’t looking close anyhow. The doctor told me that, unless my water broke, Lucas wouldn’t be born for AT LEAST another week. My heart sinked deep into my chest when he said this, at this point I was desperate to meet my little boy, I wanted him out of my belly and in my arms! I still hadn’t dilated or effaced, and Lucas wasn’t facing the right way. He also told me that IF my water broke I’d probably have to get a c-section because of the risk of infection for Lucas, and since I wasn’t dilated inducing labour would take too long.

This day we also stopped by my house and decided to start the mural for 39 weeks, even hubby had ideas for this one, but since we had so much time I didn’t finish it thinking I’d go back on saturday to do it. I did take a picture with my phone though, you know, just in case..

May 29th

So on the 29th, this is how things went down:

It was 6:30 a.m. when I woke up and wanted to go to the bathroom, so nothing unusual there. When I went I felt something weird and looked down into the toilet to realise that I had just lost the cervical plug, or “show”. I got so excited because I knew this meant labour would soon begin and I wouldn’t have to wait another week to meet my little one! I got up and went to the window to see my husband, who was out running, to tell him the news when I had another weird feeling down there, this time I didn’t have time to make it to the toilet. I felt a gush of liquid running down my legs and that’s when I got super excited, my water had broken!!

Immediately I grabbed my phone and called Leo, who had just reached his 5k mark and was about to come into the house. I just said: “I think my water just broke”, to which he replied, “What? Your water broke?, ummm…I’ll be right there!”. He showed up in, what I thought was like, 2 seconds and we called the doctor to tell him what had happened. He told us to wait for an hour, if I was still leaking amniotic fluid by then we should go to his office. I was most certain that it really was amniotic fluid, and remembering what he said the day before, I abstained from anything to eat or drink in case I were to have a c-section that day. I woke my parents and sister up, and Leo and I showered and got ready to leave for the hospital. We finished packing our hospital bags with the last minute things, like the cameras and chargers, and shampoo and conditioner and all that stuff. By then an hour had gone by and fluid was still coming out, so I called the doctor again to tell him we were on our way to his office. My sister rode with us and my parents followed close behind.

Prepping to leave to the hospital! So happy and anxious!

Prepping to leave to the hospital! So happy and anxious!

When we got to the hospital the doctor called us in and examined me, my water had, in fact, broken, but just from the top so Lucas still had plenty of liquid and was doing fine inside my belly. He told me about why I’d have to get a c-section again and then called to see the operating room’s availability. It was 8:40 am, and there was a scheduled surgery at 1 pm, which was the time my doctor wanted to schedule mine, but since I hadn’t eaten anything we could do it earlier, so he set it up for 11am. I couldn’t believe it, in just a couple of hours I’d be holding my baby, I’d finally see what he looked like, and be able to kiss him and tell him how much I loved him.

Going into the operating room, and coming out of it!

Going into the operating room, and coming out of it!

Even though it was just a couple of hours, the wait seem to be eternal. When they finally came into the room to take me to the operating room it was a little after 11:30am. Hubby was extremely nervous, I could see it in his face and all I wanted in the world was to calm him down. But sadly this was were we had to part because the hospital doesn’t allow dads to go in when moms are getting c-sections (too many incidents were the dads faint have occurred). So I just calmly told him everything would be alright and they took me inside. I was very calm to this point, but I have to admit I was very nervous about the epidural, I had heard that it could hurt quite a bit. Luckily they prepped me up very quickly and the anaesthesiologist was SO KIND. He explained everything to me as he was doing it. And the epidural didn’t hurt at all! We just waited until the anaesthesia kicked in to begin.

The surgery began at 12:05 pm. I remember repeatedly asking if his head could be seen yet, and how everything was going. Finally the anaesthesiologist told me: “He’s coming out! I can see his head” and he began taking pictures of my baby boy. Then he said: “His head is out, we’re almost there” and I felt his body coming out at that point. I swear my heart stopped in the next second, until I heard him cry out. That’s when my tears started flowing as well. I couldn’t believe it, my baby boy was finally here! Everyone inside started saying: “Time of birth: 12:20 pm”. The paediatrician took him now, and I stretched my neck out as far as I could to see my baby. His eyes were open from the very first moment I saw him, and I looked at the doctor as he examined my son all doe-eyed. He looked back at me and said: “Everything seems to be perfect with you baby, he’s moving a lot”. Then he held the stethoscope to his chest: “Everything sounds as it should”, he said to me, “He’s a very vigorous child”. I couldn’t hold back my tears, I was so excited! All I kept saying was “Perfect! I’m glad everything’s perfect!”. I had the biggest grin on my face and felt so happy. My only regret is that I didn’t get to see Leo’s face when he first saw him. When the doctor finished cleaning him and the evaluation, he wrapped him up and took him to me. I finally got to kiss him and tell him that I was his momma and that I loved him so much! What an incredible moment when you get to be in contact with your child for the first time after carrying him inside you for 9 months! It is an indescribable feeling, something that you have never experienced before! What joy, what happiness and excitement! I’ll never forget this.

Unforgettable Moments

Unforgettable Moments

After the doctor took him away it’s all just a big haze! The anaesthesiologist gave me some other meds to make me go to sleep and I didn’t complain because I had started shaking pretty bad and so I dozed off. I woke up probably an hour or so later in the recovery room and all I wanted was to see my hubby and son! They kept me there for a really long time, I think I got out at around 3:30pm. A super nice nurse was kind enough to give me my phone back so I could at least send Leo messages and see pictures of Lucas and him. This is the first photo I saw of them together:

Father and Son

Father and Son

I finally got out of the recovery room and they took me to our room. I saw my hubs and all of my family, they we’re all so excited and kept telling me what a beautiful child we had. Everyone was surprised to see him with his huge eyes open so fast. While I was resting and recovering I couldn’t see my baby and onto of that I had an allergic reaction to one of the meds they give you to stop the hemorrhage (caused by the removal of the placenta) so I “Hitched up” (you know, like in the movie Hitch) really bad. When they gave me the injection I began feeling very anxious and started crying all of a sudden, and then the swelling started. I got really upset when people started suggesting that I was probably getting PPD, because I knew that wasn’t so. And to add injury to insult the nurse who applied the meds didn’t believe that I had had an allergic reaction and didn’t want to get me and antihistamine! Finally my family convinced her that I didn’t usually have that monster look and she called my doctor who prescribed something. After that I felt so much better, the crying ceased and the swelling began to go down. I didn’t look like my normal self until the next day at around noon, but I did feel better before.

I can’t go any further without mentioning the care my husband took of me and Lucas. I swear it was as though he split up into two and was with both of us at the same time, because I never felt that he left either our sides. I’m so grateful to him and to God for putting him in my life. I can say for sure that when children come into your life the love you feel for your partner multiplies by infinity. Leo was there for me 100% of the time, he took care of me, our baby, the paperwork, that I was eating right, he fed me the entire time (not that I needed feeding, but who can say no to pampering??), he wouldn’t let people stay for long periods of time in the room and would kick anyone out if necessary. He’d take me to the bathroom and hold me, he helped me take my first shower in the hospital, encouraged me to breastfeed even tough it was tough the first few days, etc… I think my point is clear, if not for him I would’ve been lost!

These are the last pictures of us as a family of two. I'm so happy to have our new addition :D

These are the last pictures of us as a family of two. I’m so happy to have our new addition 😀

Ok, onto the night my baby was born. My doctor came at around 7pm to check on me, and when he saw that I was doing fairly well he told me that I could go see my baby in the nursery at around 9 pm. This was such good news to me! I was told that I could only see him until the next day, and that kind of made me desperate. So I diligently awaited those 2 hours, and finally the nurses came and took me to see my baby! My dad says he peeked through the window of the nursery and he saw my face light up when I saw Lucas. He said he’d never seen me happier and that it was a lovely moment. I felt so happy when I saw him, and had his daddy next to me. Holding him in my arms felt amazing! I hadn’t had the opportunity to do that before. I know that it seems crazy, but I can’t imagine life without him in it anymore. He has come to fill such an important place in our family.

Our little bundle of joy, our adorable son! (L)

The nurses were really nice to us and Lucas, they all said he was the most well behaved baby in the nursery those days (there were three other babies, two girls and another boy), and that he never bothered them. They kept calling him Mateo though, which we thought was really funny XD. Anyway, that first night one of them took our first family picture! (remember I had just had the allergic reaction, and had “hitched up” so I look really weird! :P)

Our very first family picture! :D (Please ignore my "Hitch" face)

Our perfect little family!

Lastly I leave you with a little video my hubby made of the three days we spent in the hospital! Thanks for reading this post! 🙂

38 weeks!!

The most important thing happening this week is my doc’s trip! He has left, but not without examining me first. He said he thought we’d be okay without him, and that Lucas was still going to be inside for another week, at the very least, unless my water broke, and that was very unpredictable, so he didn’t really cut me any slack there! I still haven’t dilated or effaced and Lucas still isn’t facing the right way (downward, his head is down though). Hopefully we will make it this week.

This week we also took this week to finish some of the projects we have been procrastinating:

Finally finished the felt wreath we were making with my mom :)

Also, remember that nursing cover I made? Well, Leo had given me two weeks to finish the project and if I hadn’t by then he’d buy me one, because we’d need it and shipping stuff to our country, well let’s just say it takes time. The thing is that I ended up taking longer than two weeks, so he secretly ordered one from Bebe Au Lait and gave it to me as a surprise. I loved it!

When we found out I was pregnant, Hubby and I, started a bet. I said that my belly button would pop out, and he said it would just stretch to the point of being one with my belly. If he won, his prize would be two pizzas from this joint he ADORES, but is kind of expensive so we don’t buy it often. If I won he’d have to cook this wonderful Flan he used to make. So after 38 weeks, and a series of body changes, guess who won…

Hubby enjoyed his prize!!

We’ve had lots of time this week to spend together, and I have to say I’m loving it! I’m lucky enough to be able to say that I won the husband lottery with Leo. He is so understanding and comprehensive and supportive. I couldn’t have asked for a better man to be by my side, and I’m sure that he’ll be the best father in the world too.

I love this man!!! (L)

Stretch marks? Yes, several 😦
Sleep: Getting restless and more interrupted sleep, its harder to get comfortable because of my back, but I don’t feel too tired. Haven’t managed to nap in the afternoon though, there’s something about not having Leo by my side that prevents my sleep.
Aversions: None right now…
Miss Anything? I’m missing sleeping on my belly and not being so hot all the time.
Movement: My gorgeous boy has got a thing for kicking mommy in her liver, it really hurts! But feeling him move around makes me know he’s ok, so I don’t mind. He loves moving his little feet up and down!
Food cravings: Chocolate cake, I made some and I can’t stop eating it!

37 weeks!

So this week our OBGYN threw a some really bad news at us: He won’t be here for a week, from the 21st to the 28th of may. That corresponds to weeks 38/39. Odds are Lucas will be here in that time, and my doctor won’t be able to be here! When he told us, I have to admit, I almost had a heart attack. He did manage to give me some peace of mind when he examined me and told me that my cervix is completely closed, the plug is still in place and that Lucas still hasn’t descended into my pelvis. He says this gives us time, and that he probably won’t be here for another 2 weeks. I have to be resting these days, lying down and basically keeping knees together so my baby won’t come out :P. Aside from that we also had some good news. In his examination he determined I had decent birthing hips, so Lucas should be able to fit and he also took the sample to test for strep B, and the results came back negative! 😀

Some shots of his ultrasound this week. You can see his face, rib cage, femur, etc (L)

It was also mother’s day this week, and hubby gave me so many surprises! He got me a beautiful flower arrangement and bought me like 3-4 lbs of my favourite candies! 😀 In the package he also included an adorable plastic flower that moves with solar power, and an awesome cover for my iPhone that can carry my id and credit cards. That day we went to mass, were the priest gave me and my sister-in-law a blessing for our pregnancies and deliveries, after mass we went over to my in-laws since it was also my father-in-law’s birthday, and hung out with hubby’s family, later we went to see my family so I could congratulate my mom, and spent the rest of the day at home 🙂

Flowers hubby gave me!! :D

Gerberas hubby gave me!! 😀

Mother's Day!

We also got the recliner that’s going in Lucas’ room back, and I loved it! The fabric we chose ended up looking gorgeous and I finally have a place to comfortably feed my baby boy now! And my nesting instinct (in form of crafting I told you about last week) hasn’t stopped. This week I made him a tiny bow tie, some pants to go with it and two little hats with another set of pants! I’m really liking this sewing thing 😀

week-37-rndm

I also got to go out this saturday and hang out with my girlfriends, we had such a nice time and spent hours laughing and reminiscing about high school and our friendship through the years. Oh! and we finally have the pre-certification from our insurance, so we’re all set in case we have to go to the hospital.

Lastly, but not least important, we moved into my parent’s house this week too. I was spending too much time alone at home, especially since hubby is working so much lately and ended up at my parent’s more often than not spending time with my mom. So we decided to come a bit early and that would also help us get our dogs settled with their dogs.

Aversions: Little Caesar’s Pizza…I cannot have this pizza anymore!
Miss Anything? I’m missing sleeping on my belly and not being so hot all the time.
Movement: Lucas is still having trouble remembering that he’s growing and running out of room in my belly, so he moves as much as before and sometimes I even get estranged looks from people when they see my belly moving so much! 😀
Food cravings: Chocolate!
Nauseous: I just get a little nauseous when I drink my prenatal vitamins before I eat.

Looking forward to: Meeting Lucas, but I’m trying to suppress that desire because we have to wait till the doc comes back!

36 weeks!

We had an appointment this week with the OBGYN and we could see our little boy’s adorable face and his huge cheeks, among other things! Falling in love with Lucas couldn’t be easier! The doctor gave us his estimated weight, and he’s around 6.5 lbs, what a big boy right? We were super happy to know that everything is perfect with us, his heart is perfect, his kidneys, stomach and bladder are working and his cord isn’t wrapped around his neck! So excellent news so far! He still isn’t in position though, I mean he’s head is down and his bum is up, but he hasn’t descended into my pelvis yet! hopefully it won’t be a problem further along. And speaking of pelvis, the doc’s going to determine if Lucas will fit through mine next week, and take the sample for the Strep B testing. I’m praying everything will go well :).

Who will you look like baby??

Who will you look like baby??

My nesting fase has finally come in the form of crafting :D. I’ve started a lot of projects including a little wreath with felt animals that my mom is helping me with. You can see the tiny figures in the pics below, my favourite one was the giraffe :D. I also started decorating and painting Lucas’ room at my parents’ house, you can see the progress below! And lastly I’ve began to sew!! I have never picked up a sewing machine, but it turns out that it’s not that hard. I managed to make myself a nursing cover that ended up costing me less than $10! So, yeah, I pretty darn content with myself! 😛

Crafts and more crafts!

Crafts and more crafts!

Hubby and I ended up installing the car seat this week as well, we did have some disputes though, some I blame on pregnancy hormones and some I blame to the fact that I’m such a geek and need to read every single instruction booklet before installing anything and as I turned around to open the manual hubby already managed to install the base!! Lol! We did have fun thought, and after we installed it we went to our last shower/dinner.

Carseat

We had a blast at the dinner and couldn’t be more grateful to Leo’s aunts who put it together for us! It was an intimate reunion, the food was beyond delicious, Leo’s uncle cooked for over 4 hours to make it and we had an amazing key lime pie for dessert! The perfect combo 😀

Sleep: It’s a tought task, but we manage to do it pretty well, even at this point in the pregnancy! 😀 Even if its disrupted with millions of bathroom breaks, I’d much rather keep waking up to go than diminish the amount of water I drink!
Aversions: Little Caesar’s Pizza…I cannot have this pizza anymore!
Miss Anything? I’m missing sleeping on my belly again! 😦
Movement: My baby moves all day long, he stretches his tiny body oblivious to the fact that he’s running out of room in there!
Food cravings: Cakes, cupcakes and candy! *drools*
Nauseous: I just get a little nauseous when I drink my prenatal vitamins before I eat.
Have you started to show yet: A belly the size of a sweet round honeydew melon!
Gender: Baby boy!
Labor Signs: Braxton Hicks contractions only.
Belly Button in or out? Still in! 😀
Wedding rings on or off? On.
Happy or Moody most of the time: Super Happy! Couldn’t be more excited about the evolution of my pregnancy, God has heard every prayer and has given me nothing to be sad or moody about!!
Looking forward to: Meeting my boy! And our next appointment in which we’ll know whether or not my pelvis is adequate.

35 Weeks!

This week I had a lovely shower, and the most special thing about it was that it celebrated not only the arrival of Lucas, but Mauricio’s too (that’s my sister-in-law’s baby). It had a super fun mexican theme, and the arrangements were lovely! So Mayi and I decided to go and get matching outfits for the shower. That experience started out to be VERY frustrating, not only because we have completely different body types and whatever fit one of us didn’t really fit the other, but also because we weren’t really looking for maternity wear! I know it might sound silly to you that even though we are 35 and 31 weeks along we wanted to try out “regular clothing”, but we didn’t think we’d have that much difficulty fitting into them, as if we forgot that our bellies had grown so much! Towards the end of the morning we were two really tired and really preggo women walking in a mall, with nothing but frustration in our eyes. Then we decided to give it one last chance and, thankfully, went into the store that would hold our gowns for the shower! We bought cute dresses in different colors and we loved them! The odyssey was over and our goal, achieved! I’ll post the shower pics in the next entries! 😀

This was also the first week in almost a month in which I didn’t have a shower to attend on saturday! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved every single one of them, and they’ve been most helpful, but one does get tired pretty fast when preggers and I was feeling exhausted! So this saturday Hubby and I stayed home, resting and since it was “May the Forth (Be With You)” and my hubby loves star wars we ended up watching Episode 3.

I could spend every waking moment with him and never be bored!!

Aversions: None!
Miss Anything? Not being hot ALL the time. Forget what I’ve said about being tired, or walking slowly, or having a hard time shifting positions, or even not being able to sleep on my belly…the heat is driving me crazy!
Movement: Lucas moves fairly often, he has no room for somersaults anymore, but he sure finds room to wedge his little feet in my ribs :), and kicks back if I poke him.

Baby Shower #3

My third baby shower was organised by my mom, my aunts and close family friends, they’re mostly brazilians, so they amount of thought and detail they put into this was incredible! The games were carefully planned (and because I got there 1 hour late they didn’t get to play one of the games and I got into some mild trouble! :P), the food was delicious, the ambience was adorable and the people had so much fun! There was nothing but love for my bug there, and it made me enjoy it even more!

Lovely ladies who organised everything: (from left to right) Josie, Telma, Vera, Nadina, Rose Anne, me, Rita, Grazia, Nina, Gabriela and my mom :)

When I say that they did everything with love and planned every detail carefully, I meant it. Just look at the adorable invites that THEY made!!

Here are some of the guests that showed up and won something! For example one of the games was that every guest had a little baby pinned to their shirts when they arrived, and were instructed to leave their hair alone for the entire event, and if they touched it someone could take their baby away or they could take the baby from someone else. The guest who won that game collected over 10 babies!!

Here are more pictures of guests! Each and every one of them holds a piece of my heart, and I’m so grateful for the special day the planned for me and Lucas!

Baby-Shower3-11

My hubby’s family also joined us in this celebration (and it was them who took me to get my hair done this time!). So happy to have had them there, couldn’t celebrate this without them, they’re a huge part in our lives!

Mom, Mother-in-law, me, Lyus and Mayi! :D

Another of the activities they planned for the shower was one of my personal favourites: The had me choose and age in which I wanted Lucas to receive letter form all the guests, and everyone wrote him a letter for when he turns 7-years-old. Its a kind of time capsule that not even I can read until Lucas is 7. How cool, right?!

The huge bottle in the picture is Lucas’ time capsule! (L) And next to it the cake I baked 😀

I had a wonderful time, and am blessed to have so many people in our lives wanting to be part of this moment! I want to thank each an every one of them for taking time out of their busy lives and schedules to plan this unforgettable morning! 😀

34 Weeks!!

We got excellent news this week: our insurance will cover the promotion at the new hospital! We’re going to be able to change hospitals and keep the paediatrician we wanted! 😀 Also one of my brazilian aunts brought back some of the things I asked her to bring back from Brazil, like a cologne for babies that smells like heaven, a special soap to use on baby for baths and a diaper rash cream that’s super efficient! She also brought some towels, burp cloths and covers one of her sisters make! Everything is beautiful! Lucas’ storage just keeps filling up. We even bought our first box of wipes this week! Little buddy, we’re stocking up on everything we can!

I also had a pleasant surprise when I heard that one of the little cafeterias I loved so much, that had closed, re-opened and my hubby took me to get my favourite dish: Catrachitos! I would lie if I said I didn’t enjoy every bite of that huge plate they served me!

Catrachitos

If Lucas hadn’t taken up so much room in my belly I probably would’ve taken some from hubby’s plate! 😛

Hubby got hooked on several things this week, two of them being The Lumineers (as in the band), and the other one being audiobooks, he’s gone through 3-4 books in 2 weeks!! But he’s not the only one loving the Lumineers, once Lucas heard them he started dancing in my belly!! And speaking of dancing in my belly we finally managed to record him moving!! You may laugh, but this is not an easy task! Just ask anyone who’s ever tried doing it, I think they sense the on button in the camera and deliberately stop moving! but not this time, we got you baby!! Here’s the video to prove it:

This week we also began to organise Lucas’ closet, my mom wanted to do the ironing and Hubby, my dad and me put it in the drawers:

week34

I had another shower this week, hosted by my mom, my aunts and some friends, and like the rest it will have its own post. It was a beautiful shower and you could feel all the love they  felt for my little boy! And they let me bake the cake for this shower! So I spent all friday baking the cake and had a little incident in which pregnancy brain took the best of me and made me put my fingers on the hot stove and burn them! I cried for about an hour like a child until the pain went away! But I really liked the outcome of the cake, and here’s the preview:

Baby Shower #2

My second baby shower was organised by my hubby’s family: His mom and two sisters. It was a delightful lunch, and we played many fun games, some of them were really hard! LOL. This shower was for girls only, so hubby sat it out, but it turned out to be such much fun that time flew by.

Baby-Shower-2-10

My sisters and mother in law 🙂 They are the ones who organised the shower for me! (L)

Both my mom and sister took me to the hair salon, so I could get my hair and my nails done (which is something I never do, so the change was nice), and luckily hubby liked the job! 😀

Baby-Shower-2-13

My mom and sis (L) 🙂

Leo, Lucas and I couldn’t have asked for better people to surround our little family. We are so blessed to have our family, our friends, and everyone else supporting us in every step of the way.

Baby-Shower-2-08

Even though this is technically Leo’s family I feel that they have been so great to me and have always treated me like part of them too, I’m so grateful for that, not once have they made me feel out of place :). His family is sooooooo big though and they’re all a bunch of crazies, and I love that! You’ll never be bored when talking to any of them! Even his grandmas are hilarious!

Lovely and delicious cake!!

Lovely and delicious cake!!

Isn’t this one of the cutest cakes you’ve ever seen?? And not only was it delightful to look at, it was TASTY! I could’ve had 20 pieces just for myself! *drools*

Turtles!!

Turtles!!

One of the things I loved most about the shower was the theme and decorations. We love turtles (if you remember Lucas’ nursery has this theme) and these centrepieces were hand made by my seven-year-old nephew! Aren’t they super adorable?? It was also his idea to add ribbons to the pencils so that they didn’t look plain at the tables.

Lovely Ladies!

Leo, Lucas and I thank Mayi, Lya and Nonna for this celebration and help they gave us, I had a marvellous time and loved all the details and thoughts put into this! We love you guys! (L)
